Workshop 1: Parenting Made Easier and More Rewarding

Workshop Objective: Learn how to make a significant difference for your children's well-being and fully enjoy the experience. Discover and put into practice the six primary parenting roles.

Date: Saturday, November 6, 2010, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Who should attend: Parents and anyone who interacts with children in a meaningful way – grandparents, uncles/aunts, daycare workers, teachers.

Description: When you become a parent you are not handed a manual that will answer all your questions or cover all situations. For many, the "manual" you bring to parenting is the one you learned from observing your parents. If you perceived what your parents did as good, you did that. If you were hurt or felt disadvantaged in some way by your parents' actions, you swore to do something different. Exactly what, you didn't know. Then, when pressured by circumstances, not feeling good about yourself or being resentful of your partner, you dragged baggage from your past and manifested those parental behaviors you swore not to repeat.

Parenting is the process of helping your children to 1) become aware of their potential, 2) expand their wings beyond their family and 3) perform and evolve at the peak of their abilities in a safe, supportive environment. It involves drawing out their strengths and helping them to bypass personal barriers and limits in order to achieve their personal best.

Each child is a unique individual, and each has their own schedule for growing up. At each stage of their growth, their needs and expectations from their parents will change. To meet these needs, parents take on different roles and communicate with each child according to that child's focus, style and age requirements. As a parent, you play six primary roles – sometimes two or three at the same time; at other times, one specific role may dominate.

Discover how knowing these six parenting roles can make parenting so much easier and rewarding and how you can make a significant difference in the lives of your children and your family.

Workshop 2: Assist Your Children to Learn Efficiently and Effectively

Workshop Objective: Discover how to make learning fun rather than an ordeal for you and your children. Assist your children to improve their grades at school and make learning a way of life.

Date: Saturday, December 4, 2010, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Who should attend: Parents and anyone who interacts with children in a meaningful way – grandparents, uncles/aunts, daycare workers, teachers.

Description: Problems with learning affect your children in many ways. Some very obvious, others not. These problems may result in low self-esteem leading to behaviour problems at school and at home or difficulties later in life. Let’s face it; today a good education and proven learning skills are critical to whatever your children plan to do or achieve.

As a parent, how often have you tried to help your children with their school or other assignments, yet were not fully successful? Sometimes these attempts at supporting your children may have resulted in a heated debate or a feeling of failure. To learn effectively and efficiently, your children must feel safe, supported and open to exploring new ways to learn.

This workshop will show you how to go beyond simple tips and techniques to understand the fundamentals of communication and learning that will generate buy-in, gain clarity on what your children need or expect of you and develop a learning experience that is respectful, open and productive. Disagreements or feelings of lack of support arise when parents and their children do not clearly express their needs or don’t pay attention to the needs of the other.

Discover the difference that makes a difference in learning and make a significant difference in your children’s education.
